Most people when they are starting a new blog or a new website think at AdSense as a primary way of monetizing their business. And it is by far the most popular advertising platform out there.
Most of the experienced Internet Marketers stopped using AdSense and many others are against it. You may ask why? Because there are many cases where Google just decided to close an account and offer no real explanation but an automated email.
I will explain in the next lines all I know about AdSense and then you can decide for yourself if it’s worth it.
What is AdSense?
AdSense is a program offered by Google that provides publishers of content websites to serve automatic text, image, video, or interactive media advertisements, that are targeted to site content and audience.
These ads can generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis.
How does Google AdSense Works?
Google AdSense works in conjunction with Google AdWords and they provide advertising for businesses and income for advertisers.
Google AdWords is an online advertising service that enables advertisers to compete to display brief advertising copy to web users, based in part on cookies, keywords, predefined by the advertisers, that might link the copy to the content of web pages shown to users. Web pages from Google and from partner websites are designed to allow Google to select and display this advertising copy. Advertisers pay when users divert their browsing to seek more information about the copy displayed, and partner websites receive a portion of the income they generate.
Google AdSense – Now your job is to place these Google AdWords ads on your website and make some money every time someone clicks any of them.
The ads are all created by Google and you have not much control over what’s showing. All you can do is decide what you don’t want to show on your website. How much you can make from each click depends pretty much on how much the business bid on that click. You can make a few cents a click to a few dollars a click.
How to join Google AdSense program?
If you want to join AdSense you should take some things into consideration:
- The average waiting time is between one and two weeks.
- First you should have already a decent website
Before you want to apply I would recommend at least :
- At least 5 Pages or Posts with content
- About me page
Having all ready before applying is important because Google will see that you are serious about your website and will most likely approve it. In case of a denial you should expect longer waiting times for a second review.
After you account is set up don’t forget to carefully read Google’s Program Policies before posting any ads. Google can be very annoying about not telling people what have done wrong and once the account is close you have to start from the beginning and you will also lose any amount you had until that point.
How to place an ad on your website?
I usually leave the ads they way Google is providing them unless I want something special. You should choose “My Ads” in the upper left. Then press Get Code.
Next you should just copy the code provided by Google.
How to place the Ad Code on your website?
In a Page or a Post
Paste the code in to the Word Press Text Editor (not the visual editor) of any Page or Post
In A Widget
Click on Appearance > Widgets in your WordPress dashboard. Choose the Text block and place it in your desired widget area. Paste the Ad code in the Text block.
And you are done. It should all work flawlessly. I think it is very easy to understand how to use it.
Should you use Google AdSense on your website?
This should be your decision. Knowing what type of website you want will better help you understand what type of visitor you have and how you can best serve them. Keep in mind that ads may be very distracting to your reader. If someone is reading an article on your site and then suddenly sees a link that better fits what they are looking for, chances are good they’ll bounce out of your site before even reading what you have to say. If your goal is to get the visitor to click an ad, then this strategy may work on an Informational and directory website.
I belive that you can use AdSense on your website just don’t spam. Think of your own reaction when you visit a website filled with ads. You get the hell out of there and probably never come back. This is what can happen to your own website when you fill your website with ads.
On the other hand AdSense is pretty much annihilated by AdBlock extension these days.
You won’t get rich using Adsense for sure, but at least will add something up to your income. I know many don’t recommend using AdSense right from the inception of your website but I found out that using it gave me those small amounts of money that kept me going and motivated.
Remember to offer quality content before anything else and you will make money. AdSense is just a small part of making money, but it can sure make one keep on going.
I would recommend also to try Affiliate Marketing. If you don’t know much about it then maybe you should also check my Number One recommendation review.
